If Few Get to Heaven

Matthew 7:13-14 says that many go into destruction and few will find life. Jesus was talking about eternal life – life with God forever, in heaven. I want to go to heaven, and if only few will find it, I need to start looking.

How can I find heaven?
Hebrews 11:6 says that I need to believe that God is alive and that he will reward those that look hard for him. Colossians 3:2 tells me that I have to want heaven more than I like the things that I can have now.

When should I seek heaven?

Well, any time you go some place that you have never been before, it makes sense that you have to plan the trip. Just because I believe in God and want to go to heaven doesn’t mean that I will get there. I could wait a few years before I start getting ready for heaven, but that wouldn’t be too smart. In Matthew 25, Jesus told a story about the kingdom of heaven being like ten people waiting to go to a wedding. Five of them were wise and had everything ready, but the other five were foolish and were not ready when it was time for the wedding to start. They missed it because they started getting ready when it was too late.

So, since I want to go to heaven, I need to start getting ready now. Acts 10:34-35 says that God will accept those that do what is right, but what does that mean? What does it include? Well, Peter told them in Acts 10:47-48 to be baptized (washed in water) to let Jesus’ death save them.

Once I have accepted Jesus as the son of God, and have been baptized, I need to stay away from sin and live a good life for God. He wants me to meet with other believers to worship him, and to live as a good example for others to follow.

If I can live that kind of life, I will get to be one of the few who go to heaven!
